13 - How Nehemiah Prayed while Fasting

Nehemiah 1:
4 When I heard this, I sat down and cried. In fact, I refused to eat for several days, for I spent the time in prayer to the God of heaven.
5 "O Lord God," I cried out; "O great and awesome God who keeps his promises and is so loving and kind to those who love and obey him! Hear my prayer!
6 Listen carefully to what I say! Look down and see me praying night and day for your people Israel. I confess that we have sinned against you;
7 yes, I and my people have committed the horrible sin of not obeying the commandments you gave us through your servant Moses.
8 Oh, please remember what you told Moses!
You said, " 'If you sin, I will scatter you among the nations;
9 but if you return to me and obey my laws, even though you are exiled to the farthest corners of the universe, I will bring you back to Jerusalem. For Jerusalem is the place in which I have chosen to live.'
10 "We are your servants, the people you rescued by your great power.
11 O Lord, please hear my prayer! Heed the prayers of those of us who delight to honor you. Please help me now as I go in and ask the king for a great favor - put it into his heart to be kind to me."

My prayer while fasting:

O Lord, my great and loving Father,
You alone are the Almighty and Awesome God;
You keep Your promises and show Your loving-kindness to those who love You and obey You with their lifestyle.
Lord, I endeavour to love You and obey You and fit in with Your plans for my life, and I ask You to hear me today!

Please listen carefully to my request, Father, as I bring my request to You with a humble heart.
You see how the situation I am facing has broken my heart. I have cried out my grief before You and now I am asking you with all my heart to intervene in this situation.

You see, Father, that this situation has come about because I and those who belong to me have gone away from Your commands in our lifestyle. We have chosen to forget the manner of life You have outlined for us to live in Your Word.
(Outline how you have disobeyed the Lord here.)

But You in Your gracious love, You have given us the Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, whose Blood is even now before Your throne in heaven for our forgiveness and justification.
(Now quiet yourself and breathe in God's forgiveness)
Lord Jesus Christ, I come in Your name, because You are at the place of authority in heaven right now, interceding on my behalf.

Lord, since I chose not to obey You, my life has gone out of control and this present situation has been the result of my going my own way and failing to live the way You have commanded me to live.

Today I am asking for Your great mercy to be poured out on my life.
Today I seek Your face and I turn from my wicked way.
I line up my lifestyle with Your word and I ask that You make a way for me out of this trouble.

Then I ask that You will hold me to my promises to walk with You all the days of my life. I have learned the hard way that disobedience to You shuts Your blessings out of my life.
I need Your blessings to overflow in my life once again. I need goodness and mercy to follow me all the days of my life beginning today.

Please help me now as I commit myself to walk with You in faithfulness.
I ask these requests humbly in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,
through whom I come to You today,
Amen.
